Sour Cream and Onion Popcorn Seasoning

With all of the shelter-in-place orders and social distancing going on in the world, I know that there is a lot of movie watching and binge watching of TV shows going on.
And since that is the case, we might all need a little spicing up of our popcorn game, right? I mean, plain popcorn is good for awhile, but sometimes a little zing makes a ho-hum bag into a special treat!
I’ve got other recipes up on the blog already – Dill Pickle Popcorn Seasoning and Three Caballeros Seasoning – but this one is just as good!
I love a good sour cream and onion chip, so this seemed like a no-brainer popcorn topping. I will admit – buttermilk powder is kind of an odd ingredient to have laying around. But if you get some, it lasts forever and is totally worth it! You might be able to use regular milk powder, but I haven’t tried it. I imagine it won’t have the tang that the buttermilk does.
If you have popcorn salt or superfine salt, use it. Or if you happen to have a spice grinder, put everything inside and pulse it. Its really so the salt becomes finer and spreads more evenly on the popcorn. If you don’t, its not a big deal!
- 2 tbsp Buttermilk Powder
- 3 tsp onion powder
- 3/4 tsp dill
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp fine salt
-
Measure out all ingredients into a small bowl.
-
Whisk to combine. If you have a spice grinder, feel free to pulse them through there a few times (especially to make the salt extra fine).
-
Spray popcorn with some cooking spray or toss with melted butter and sprinkle seasoning over the bowl. Toss again and enjoy!
